National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) on 29th September 2015, provides a comprehensive and transparent methodology to rank institutions across India. Approved by the MHRD, this framework evaluates institutions based on five key parameters that are essential for assessing their overall quality and impact.

NIRF was designed to provide reliable and consistent rankings that reflect the overall performance of institutions in India, based on parameters that directly impact quality education and research. The framework uses objective data to rank institutions and guide students in making informed choices about their education.

NIRF Ranking Parameters

1.Teaching, Learning & Resources (TLR)

This parameter assesses the institution’s ability to provide a conducive learning environment, including infrastructure, faculty quality, and resources available to students for academic growth.

2.Research and Professional Practice (RP)

The focus here is on the institution’s research output, innovation, and professional practices. It evaluates faculty publications, patents, and the impact of research conducted within the institution.

3.Graduation Outcome (GO)

This parameter measures the institution’s performance in terms of student success, including graduation rates, employability, and the number of students pursuing higher education.

4.Outreach & Inclusivity (OI)

The inclusivity factor considers the institution’s efforts in promoting diversity, inclusion, and outreach programs aimed at ensuring access to education for students from diverse backgrounds.

5.Perception (PR)

Perception evaluates the reputation of the institution based on feedback from academic peers, employers, and other stakeholders in the field of education.
