VIT is a premier technical, cultural, social, or sports. I take pleasure in informing you that we set some exceptional benchmarks organization which has always encouraged students and staff members alike to participate in various events and activities, be it this year.

This academic year started on ________________. The Independence Day was celebrated with utmost patriotic fervor on 15th of August, 2015, supporting our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi’s initiative of “Startup India, Stand Up India”.

Vishwakarandak, our annual inter departmental competition was organized with a theme like never before, “Harry Potter”. The theme signified the beginning of formation of new ideas, an introduction to our generation, emphasizing on the trend of new thoughts, innovations, technology and the involvement of students as a whole for the betterment of the country. The aesthetics team created various paintings, posters etc displaying the theme. All the departments participated in Vishwakarandak, be it sports, dance, band, creative writing and new business events like smart analyst, optimist, introduced this year, all trying to get a step closer to the trophy by gaining maximum points for their respective departments. Department of Mechanical Engineering won the trophy, and their success was celebrated by a marching band in college the following day. The competitive spirit, creativity and enthusiasm of all students made Vishwakarandak a great success.

On 26th January, 2016 we celebrated our nation’s 66th Republic Day with the central theme being dedicated to Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, whose recent demise left the nation in grief. After the flag hoisting the Director addressed the gathering and talked about Kalam sir’s vision about having a developed India by 2020, and how the youth were the torchbearers to this dream.

‘Reinventing India’ was the Theme for Mélange 2015, one of the biggest and awaited college fest in India, which went international this year. Mélange had an incredible mixture of technical, sports, extra-curricular and social events and activities, organized from 8th -12th of February, 2015. Every year the musical concert is organized for enjoyment but this year the beauty is that there was concert which hosted not one, but three brilliant artists! Amit Trivedi was joined by Neeti Mohan and Divya Kumar. The concert saw a grand crowd enjoying the live performance of their favorite singers. The technical big six events (Robowars, Line Tracer, Age of Robots, Wheels on Fire, Robo soccer), Footloose, V-Rock, Gaming, workshops, guest lectures, seminars, etc saw students from many colleges participating. Technical events were a grand success and many more events having similar participation which provided a platform for new and innovative ideas. Lounge events also attracted a lot of students. The finale nights displayed amazing talents by Indian students and fierce competitions between the teams. Mélange is introducing new events and innovative workshops every year so that it gets bigger and better garnering a great response. This time, the concept of Human Foosball and Paintball was introduced which induced a lot of excitement in the students. It is rare to ever find a Paintball arena in a college fest, but VIT managed to pull off an event of that level well. Pugmarks also came for a day of Rappelling for the students.

VIT prides itself on being one of Maharashtra’s leading engineering colleges and shaping engineers of great caliber and this year’s technical activities support that statement. Team Veloce 4.0 took part in Competitions- SUPRA SAE INDIA 2015. Located in MMRT, Chennai, Captain- Sanket Bhonde lead this team. The group appeared 5th overall in India, and bagged the first in acceleration (0-75 mtrs in 4.5 secs). It also secured the second position in skidpad, presentation. The BAJA SAE INDIA was lead by their Captain Kedar Rege, and the team went on to win the BAJA Student India Award in Best Design. Securing an overall 7th position, they made VIT proud yet again.

The cultural team of our college won a lot of accolades and appreciation from different corners this year.

VIT Pune added a feather to its cap by conducting the TEDxVIT Pune event, comprising of 9 speakers from various disciplines who gave a speech on the central theme of ‘Growth’ according to their specializations. This program had an attendance limit of 100 select delegates comprising of students from all branches and years of study. It was a resonating success as the international concept of a TEDx conference was embraced by VIT. The VIT Model United Nations conference was another event which heightened the diplomacy and communication skill levels of students. With 5 various committees focusing on global agendas for discussion and debate, it turned out to be a success with delegates from other colleges participating as well. The Speakers Club of VIT Pune has as many as 10 representatives in this MUN in one form or another, and thus established the club to be true to its repute.

VIT-Socials perform a number of activities throughout the year. The activities include the biggest event NSS Camp that is organized for 7 days in a village for the welfare and development of the village. This year a camp to Kanjale Village recognized the presence of 65 volunteers and many new activities were organized. Blood donation camp and Aatmabodh-A computer literacy program for senior citizens are organized twice a year and holds a record of maximum volunteers. This year about 120 volunteers for Aatmabodh and 80 volunteers for Blood-D took active part in the event. Many Social events were organized in the festivals of Melange and Vishwakarandak. Ignited Innovators Of India – i2i organized by Bhau Institute wherein number of Social projects is implemented and VIT-Pune is the proud to earn 7 trophies for the same in 2014-2015. This year too, about 20 projects are selected in the 2nd phase. The Disaster Management Workshop was conducted to learn self defense as well as protection of the society and 150 NSS members were present for the 2 Days workshop. Police Mitra -Helping hand for the police during the festival of Ganapati is one such event conducted for 11days. Under the banner of Seva-Sahyog, a walkathon was conducted where 80 Students from VIT participated in the walk for a cause. Tree Plantation, a number of saplings was planted in the vicinity of college as well as the open land in Kondhwa. KVIFF conducted a competition for Street play and Presentation; VIT team won the 2nd position in the competition. Eco-Rangers, Clean Pune- Green Pune –A survey was conducted to analyze the basic needs and expectations from the people. Swatch Bharat to create a clean Pune was also organized wherein 150 NSS volunteers participated. These are some of the activities performed by VIT-Socials. Social Secretaries: Roshan Jadhav, Chetansingh Kushwah, Monali Golhar.

Quality Circle is an international convention where students work on various sproblems and develop work related skills, attitude and behavior style. Our college has received various accolades for the projects like rural computer literacy and rain water harvesting and has always won the 1st award at the national and international convention.

Mirage, the first campus film society in an engineering college which was started with an objective to cultivate a student audience which understands that cinema is an art form as well as a universal language of expression. Interactive sessions with eminent personalities from the film industry followed by the screening of various internationally acclaimed films are organized by Mirage every year. The aero-modeling club conducts various workshops to design aircrafts. The other active clubs which are a part of the college include Mercantile Club, EDC, Antariksh Club, Speakers Club, etc. that conduct various workshops and seminars to constantly motivate students.

Entrepreneurship Development Center organized a variety of such workshops throughout the year. Their biggest achievement however, was the Internship Mela. This was a unique concept introduced to connect startups to students, so that both get the exposure. It was the biggest platform in Pune of its kind, and was an unprecedented internship fair. Students were introduced to many startups based in and around Pune, where they could apply for a summer internship. Companies also paid a stipend to the students who were selected. This brought together both entrepreneurs and students and gave manpower and industry exposure to the respective parties. There was an Ideation Bootcamp in association with NIT Trichy which got electronic media coverage through ABP Majha news. Mercantile Club also conducted various interesting seminars throughout the year.

VIT has a helpline cell which provides financial assistance to economically backward students promoting earn and learn schemes and provides free computer training.

The ‘Ladies Club’ of VIT organized seminars and lectures by eminent personalities to address and guide the girl students. A seminar on human trafficking and forced prostitution was organized by Shapath from Symbiosis who had also conducted a city wide movement to create awareness for the same with the help of our students . Dr. Vandana Nimbargi along with a team from Sun Pharmaceuticals were invited for a social awareness program regarding PCOD(Polycystic Ovary disease). Women’s day was celebrated which was graced by the presence of Ms. Radha Giri, CEO and founder of Midas touch consultants who discussed the importance of social networking in a professional environment
