Brief  Profile:


 Paluri S. V. Nataraj is a Professor of Systems and Control Engg Group at IIT Bombay. He obtained a Ph.D. from IIT Madras in process dynamics and control in 1987. He then worked in the CAD center at IIT Bombay, India for about one and half years before joining the faculty of the Systems and Control Engineering Group at IIT Bombay in 1988. He has been involved in teaching and research for about 28 years at IIT Bombay. His current research interests are in the areas of Global Optimization, Parallel Computing, Reliable Computing, and Robust Control. He was invited as a Visiting Professor to Spain in 2005, and as a visiting Professor to France in 2010 and 2015. Prof. Nataraj received the award from NVIDIA, USA for a “CUDA Centre of Excellence” (now renamed as GPU Centre for Excellence, or GCOE) at IIT Bombay in 2013. This is the first award for a Centre of Excellence in GPU Computing in India. Earlier in 2012, he won the NVIDIA award for “Innovation with GPUs” for his work in Parallel Computing based Global Optimization. He is currently also the Chairman of the NVIDIA Academic Program Committee for India. Prof. Nataraj also received the Shared University Award (SUR) from IBM, USA in 2015 for research on global optimization and for creating the OpenPower Research Facility at IITB. He has been nominated in 2014 as a member of the General Electric (GE) learning advisory board for Africa, and as an academic member of the APEX committee for Gas Turbine Technology Initiative (GATET) of DRDO, India. He is also on the national steering committee for DEITY’s indigenous MRI machine (IMRI)” from Feb 2015 under “Make in India” initiative. In 2016, Prof. Nataraj was nominated as an expert member of National Supercomputing Mission – HR group, and chairman of its curriculum sub-committee. Prof. Nataraj has conducted many courses for various industries and organizations, such as nuclear power, space and defense research organizations. He worked on several projects for these organizations and other industries. He gave numerous invited talks in North and South America, Europe, and Africa in areas such as optimization, reliable computing, and control. Some of his papers received the best paper awards at various international conferences. Prof. Nataraj was the chairman or co-chairman of several international 2 conferences sponsored by IEEE and other societies. He also chaired and co-chaired several sessions in various international conferences in India and abroad.
